His ideas for paintings come from many sources. He is a keen observer of nature and spends considerable time looking at the sky and water and photographing scenery. He has evolved from painting representational/realistic landscapes to more impressionistic, abstract and expressionistic representations of landscapes. This frees him to create his own compositions from what he envisions in his mind. The ultimate goal is to create a painting that is aesthetically pleasing, interesting and conveys feeling as well as a sense of place. The place may be interpreted differently by different viewers, but that just adds to the mystery of the painting.
Steve, a native of New York, graduated from Carnegie Mellon University. He has studied at the Museum of Fine Arts School in Boston and has been a student of master artist Tom Ouellette. Steve's work has been in galleries, in numerous shows and is in many private collections. It can also be viewed at his studio, SilverWoods Studio, located at 450 Harrison Ave. in SOWA, a major artist's community in Boston. Steve will also entertain commissions.
Steve is the founder of the SOWA Artists Guild, an association of studio artists. In addition to special events, the Guild sponsors First Friday events every month. A lifelong artist, Steve was able to devote full time to his painting after a successful business career in which he was CEO of several high tech companies. |
